Ryan Meets Condi

Condi was in town last week to sign the Bulgarian base agreement (basically saying that the US will be able to station troops at Bulgarian bases). There was a reception at the embassy where I (along with my MBAEC-mates) was able to meet Condi (or Madam Secretary, as she is formally called) and get a couple pictures with her.

Interesting. In some cultures calling a high authority person “Madam” would be an insult, as some attach a very pejorative meaning to it. For example you cannot call the Queen of England “Madam”. Once she was here in Nomansland and one of our ministers called her “Madam”. Since that she hasn’t visited our country any more….
