Clearing the Snow

We’ve had some snow in Bulgaria over the last few weeks and the cities’ Roma tram/bus stop clearing crew were always out in full force. At on one of the bus stops they were chipping the ice from waiting area as well as between the road and the curb. The result was large clumps of ice being generated. Now most people would shovel the ice into a pile on the side. However, and I have seen this fairly regularly in Sofia, this crew was tossing the clumps of ice into the street – a major thoroughfare into the city. Cars passing the area were forced to swerve, slow down or otherwise take defensive measures to keep from hitting the large clumps of ice. The cleaning crew didn’t even notice. In fact they nearly hit several cars by shoveling ice clumps into the street as cars were passing. It was all an interesting sight from the safety of my tram window.
